Massacre in the Ansari neighborhood of Aleppo: bearing witness

On the second of February 2013. the Syrian army bombed and shelled the Ansari neighborhood  of Aleppo killing and injuring many defenseless civilians, among them   women and children. Many refugees fleeing the bombings in other areas had taken refuge in this locality which was very densely populated when the attack took place.  As it was happening and the buildings started to turn into rubble and melting concrete, people were rushing to save and help, disregarding their own safety, clambering the freshly forming mounds of devastation or digging with their bare hands in order to save the buried people while the relentless mortar  shelling continued.  I froze the scene in my mind as I watched the video: From the skies death was descending wielded by brutal remorseless men in their machines, while on the ground people were frantically rushing to save and assert the humanity of man to man.

The blinding smoke

And still the shelling continues

And still the shelling continues

In the twinkle of an eye

Why are you bombing us Assad, we are civilians

We are civilians
