Remembering my friend and my illumination

The poet and the artist are  disappearing in me as my involvement with the suffering of the Syria people governs my life more and more. But last night I dreamed about my paintings specially about an illumination which I made for a dear friend of mine. She gave me some poems to read and I liked one of the poems so much that I decided to illustrate it and give it to her as a gift. My friend drowned while swimming in the sea last summer, and I forgot all about my illumination until I saw it in my dreams last night. In memory of her, I have decided to post the poem and the illumination today.

In the illumination, as I explored my passion for calligraphy, I chose to show the influence of both Western, as well as Arab Islamic manuscripts, on my style of illumination. It is painted in gouache and burnished gold leaf and gold ink.
